History
Set on Lake Maggiore, Ascona began as a small fishing village and, in the early 20th century, became a haven for artists and thinkers drawn to the Monte Verità hill and its utopian communities. Its lakeside promenade and narrow old-town lanes make it one of Ticino's best-known destinations today, famous too for the jazz festival that fills its square each summer.
