History

The municipality of Blenio, formed in 2007 from the merger of several villages in the upper valley, includes Olivone and stretches up to the Lukmanier Pass, a historic link to the Grisons. The valley has been known for centuries for cattle raising and alpine cheesemaking, a tradition still alive on its many mountain pastures. The landscape alternates between forests, meadows, and peaks rising above two thousand meters.
